Joining the 21st Century at last!

Hello friends,

As we are now twelve years into the 21st Century, it's probably time for the Wright family to catch up with technology at last!  So, without further adieu, welcome to our humble blog!  The topics will include everything from homeschooling, to the joys and challenges of parenting, to loving our children with special needs, to favorite recipes, to politics and beyond.  I'll write about my passions and would love to hear about yours.  What brings joy to your heart?  What worries weigh you down? What encourages you most?  What amazes you most about God?

If you have a moment, I'd like to share one of my favorite stories about encouragement in the hope that it will encourage you.  Several years ago I was seeing a patient (my husband and I both are licensed psychologists) who had been severely depressed for many years.  To put it bluntly, there were many serious challenges in her life that would discourage anyone.  We had been working together for a couple of months and I had rarely seen her smile.  One day she came into my office, absolutely beaming!  I asked her what happened, expecting some wonderful miracle that would help lift her from her depression.  She answered that she had just come from the grocery store.  While checking out, the clerk had apparently been very kind to her, even touching her hand when giving my patient her change, and smiling at her.  This small act of kindness, to a dear lady whose life was so terribly broken, had touched her so deeply that she was still beaming an hour later!  I think of this story often and try to remember to show the same simple kindnesses whenever possible.  It is easy to think that God can only use us in big and profound ways, but often His love is shown best in a simple smile or a kind word.  So if you are feeling today that God cannot use you because you are not rich, or beautiful, or whatever society says is important, please remember that He often uses the simple things of the world to confound the wise (1 Corinthians 1:27)!
